Nobody knows where the time goes

What on earth is this song about I used to think back in the pre-internet days of 1993 when it was first released. Well, the official video for the song shows umpteen images of college kids and the updated video shows them (20?) years later so I guess the song is about regrets of times past when the singer was a teenager. It’s the chorus that makes the song so memorable but the words are vague enough that I can’t really pin down what exactly he’s regretting. Perhaps lost youth or a failed relationship? Personally I say good riddance to 1974 and 1975.

Got no reason for coming to me
And the rain running down
There’s no reason
And the same voice coming to me
Like it’s all slowing down.
And believe me

I was the one who let you know.
I was your sorry ever after.
74 75

It’s not easy
Nothing to say cause it’s already said.
It’s never easy.
When I look on in your eyes then I find that I’ll do fine.
When I look on in you eyes then I’ll do better.

I was the one who let you know.
I was your sorry ever after.
74 75
Giving me more and I’ll define.
Cause you’re really only after
74 75

Got no reason for coming to me.
And the rain running down.
There’s no reason.
When I look on in you eyes then I find that I’ll do fine.
When I look on in your eyes then I’ll do better.

I was the one who let you know.
I was your sorry ever after.
74 75
Giving me more and I’ll define.
Cause you’re really only after
