Marti Caine

Nov 1, 2023

I found this book in a charity shop. Do you remember when the UK only had four TV channels and there were still such things as “all round entertainers”. Lynne could act, present, sing, dance and tell jokes too. It would have been Lynne’s birthday in a few days time. She passed away at the far too young age of 50 in 1995.

One Response to “Marti Caine”

She was an amazing talent. As you say, an ‘all round entertainer’ but kind of a victim of that label. She was so successful as a presenter, comedian, actress & dancer that she never got the recognition as a singer that she deserved. The story goes that in order to scrape an existence, she endlessly played working men’s clubs, however, they always wanted new acts, so he would continually book her in under different names. One time, he received a call from a booking agent. He came in from the garden where he was potting tomatoes still holding the tomato canes, so when they asked for the act’s name and he had nothing, he said ‘Marta Cane’. When she arrived at the gig, they had mis-spelt it as Marti Caine, but she liked it and kept it.
