Whakoom

Feb 1, 2023

For years I loaded comics into the Collectorz.com database. Then they changed the rules. I could no longer download cover images unless I subscribed to their new monthly payments. So that was the end of that.

Anyway I had stupidly recorded hundreds and hundreds of comics I don’t like and have since thrown away. It was time to start again with a new database consisting only of comics I intended to keep for the rest of my life. There’s not a great choice if you don’t want the tedium of a spreadsheet. Last week I found Whakoom. It’s quite new and as the software was developed in Spain there are still many gaps to be filled but I will see how I get on.

PS: So I have paid for a Pro plan. The free one soon stops when you have loaded a few hundred comics into the database. I considered returning to Collectorz.com but found Whakoom quicker and simpler to use. That is because it is much more basic with no ability to link to CovrPrice. But I just want a simple way of managing a list of the comics I own. I don’t want to check the value of individual comics. The ability to print an xl spreadsheet of the comics in my collection was what made me decide to pay approx £20 per year for Pro. Just ticking a comic cover is quicker than typing into a spreadsheet.

PPS: Some quirks. Adventure Comics are under “N” for New which may be technically correct for the first few issues but is confusing for someone like me who doesn’t have any issues pre number 295. The House of Mystery Vol 1 is found under “T” for “the”, as is The Defenders and The Brave and the Bold. House of Mystery Vol 2 is under “H” for “house”. I can’t find The Flash Vol 1 anywhere though Volume 2 is listed.
