Famous Monsters of Filmland 1

Nov 1, 2023

Warren published the first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland in February 1958. At first it was just planned as a one-shot but it sold so well that there was a second print run in May 1958. Then, it was decided to publish further issues and issue number 2 appeared in September 1958.

Surprisingly Thorpe and Porter issued almost identical UK copies of numbers 1 and 2. There was a clear Thorpe and Porter “Teepee” on the cover of the second issue but the indicia stated that the magazine was published by Brook Street Publications Ltd of London. From the third issue onwards T&P just imported the US editions and stamped a 2/6d price on the covers

I can’t understand why the second UK edition says that it is number one top right and inside when the cover clearly states it is the second issue. Bonkers.
