This is how it works
You’re young until you’re not
You love until you don’t
You try until you can’t
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

Many people thought it odd (if not downright disturbing) that Batman ran around with a costumed child sidekick. I think whoever came up with the original idea of boy (sometimes girl) sidekicks had innocent intentions. It was just an easy way of helping the young readers identify with their hero. They could relate to the younger character and imagine themselves having similar adventures.

How old was the original Robin? I think I once read somewhere that he was 12 years old when he began swinging around with Batman and was 16 years old when he first became a member of the Teen Titans. So here in this November 1965 issue of World’s Finest Comics he’s still a minor and shouldn’t be slapped around by an evil Batman even if it is a what-if “Imaginary Novel” so beloved by the DC writers of the time.

The mid 1950s Comic CodeĀ  got rid of Zombies and severed heads from comics but in the 1960s the Code was quite happy with stuff that maybe wouldn’t go down too well in comics designed for children nowadays.

Superman’s Girlfriend, Lois Lane 14 cover dated January 1960 depicts Superman (well a Superman robot) taking Lois over his knee to give her a spanking. This had been a fairly regular thing that Superman (and quite a variety of other heroes including Wonder Woman) got up to in the 1950s, often in the final panel of a story, to chastise naughty girls.
